Importance of Gut Health

In our intestinal tract alone, there are more than 400 different types of bacteria which all works together with your enteric nervous system to signal hunger, mood, illness and other internal cues. This connection is known as the gut-brain health connection and a balanced gut would equate to an overall healthier body.

Gut health is considered very important as it is also known as the second brain as it is involved in many functions that is directly linked to one’s health. From mood to immunity to digestion, disease prevention and athletic performance.

Here are some ways to improve gut health:

  1. Glutamine - A non-essential amino acid that is readily available in our body. Naturally occurring glutamine in the body protects the the intestinal stability. Thus, increased glutamine levels by consuming glutamine supplements, will increase intestinal stability, stronger intestinal lining and decreases inflammations in the body.
  2. Exercise - Studies have shown that higher cardiovascular fitness increases gut diversity which results to better overall health.
  3. Probiotics - Helps improve digestion, promotes gut health, reduces diarrhea caused by certain infections and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). It is able to treat bacterial infections such as diarrhea, Urinary Tract Infections and IBS.  Additionally, it is able to boost your immune system, preventing you from falling sick easily and not be able to train.
  4. Prebiotics - Prebiotics are nondigestible dietary ingredients that boost the benefits of probiotics by promoting their growth and activity. Prebiotics can be found in foods including such bananas, chia seeds, wheat, onions, chicory, and artichokes.
